Women of Steel

The year started off with perseverance and oozes of energy.

The story goes like this. Well, it’s not a story to begin with. I must say this, it was an eye opener for mortals like us who just get waned away with dwindled pleasures.

I met 2 women. Well, I can say they are well past their prime. In fact, prime was gone long time ago and here they were, smiling at me, with unsurmountable words of wisdom and a gentle swagger that defines their aura.

These young, old ladies are miracle women to our generation.

One is 97, the other is in the pink of health at 102.

Now, those are staggering numbers.

Age has always been a subject of enigma, distortion and privacy. Face it, we hate getting older. Every birthday is a kind reminder to your ageing lifeline. Yet, we flaunt it with our ego and prejudices. We don’t like being taunted, though.

They have a memory of a whale and the eye of a hawk. They remember everything, doesn’t matter who it is. Like-able or not, memories are still memories.

Memoirs of a 97 year old-

The name of second child of her third grandson, the last time she visited London, birthday dates of almost all family members and an eye for details. If guns were blazing, I would give it to her hands down.

The tale of a 102 year old-

She crossed borders in Rangoon during the war ravaged times, with her children in her arms. But she charms you with her diaspora of memories and faith in God. She had few suggestions for me – take care of your family and respect your parents, they are the reason for our existence and success today.

Words of wisdom these days come in from all quarters but this one was one of it’s kind.

Meeting both of them gives you utmost satisfaction for the very reason we live – to love life.

At this age, I would be sipping Coke in my grave!

Both of them have stark similarities.

They have been through the worst, understand and paved the way through life with limitations and tenacity. Most importantly, they have this insatiable urge to live. And, that is the sole reason for the magic they exude.

Ladies, you aren’t merely the Women we celebrate. You are the giants for generations to look up to and take pride in our tormented and illustrious legacy.

flashy notes

when it comes to ‘goodbye’, we become lavish contenders to admire and vent people around. But if we question the moment of truth, then an opportunist will be the winner of intrigue situations.

being posthumous

‘Celebrate people when they are alive, gives us a reason to believe why they deserved it’. @msksmiles

It’s time we push ourselves to a notch higher were people and their achievements are acknowledged on time. My anguish is pretty much in terms of our award system, be it in/for excellence in any field. I would love to believe that most of the coveted renderings aren’t manufactured, yet it makes sense to award someone when he/she realises and is able to cherish the fact that he/she is being awarded/appreciated/lauded. At the outset, we still have a long way to go when it comes to recognition of human achievements and their monumental impact on the world affairs.

This is familiar characteristic in the media industry, especially films, since it happens to be the most visible and popular. It pre exists in the field of science and politics as well but it isn’t as imperative as the achievements and their acknowledgement is often deemed implicit. But does it demand anonymity is a question to be asked. More significantly, human achievements are not bound by or for laurels, they are a work of magical minds and herculean efforts. If they cant sit on trophies, I don’t think trophies can sit on them. They would rather grace them with their enamoured hands, with a smile and a sense of umpteen satisfaction.

Food for thought?

Hoggs Market

One of the most revered hang outs for Calcuttans. From needles to shoes, puchkas to patties – it’s the inevitable one stop shop for shopaholics. If mayhem, sweat and people fascinate you, then this is the place to be. Native for Calcutta, cosmopolitan for ROW.

when earth quakes

Earthquakes, quintessentially, creates panic and deprive people of using their common sense. I am consciously avoiding the technicalities here as having the knowledge of how earthquakes happen and the art of surviving when one hits us seldom go hand in hand.

I am of the opinion that we must showcase real gut and presence of mind when such impending disasters loom large. Not that they will break down upon us but the acceptance statement of ‘they could at any point of time’ should give us enough impetus to hold on to our nerves and make an attempt to survive and contribute positively. Besides, the best we can do in these situations is to keep calm, act courageously and avoid scaring others.

Pray that hell doesn’t break loose but god forbid, if it does, let’s get a grab of ourselves and not make the most of an already convicted vicinity.

up and down

Contesting facets of life, one beholds just a shade yet looks impressively bright. The latter, is surrounded by vivid colours of the ovulated life. You look down, you look up. Life still wins.
